At Willow Dental Care, we love helping our patients achieve healthy, confident smiles. We recently reviewed the results of a patient who had completed her smile transformation six months previously. This case involves simple additive dentistry. No further enamel was lost in order to achieve this result.
Her concern was discolouration.
Our patient had worn teeth due to enamel loss from erosion and abrasion on the front surfaces of her incisors. Over time, her teeth had darkened internally, and the thinning enamel became more translucent, allowing the darker dentine underneath to show through.
Step 1: Professional Whitening to lift the colour
To address the discolouration, we started with a 14-night at-home whitening treatment using carbamide peroxide gel. This gentle yet effective process lightened the internal structure of her teeth, restoring a brighter, more youthful appearance. We then waited two weeks post-whitening to allow the teeth to stabilise before proceeding with bonding.
Step 2: Composite Bonding to Restore Worn Teeth
Once the whitening results had settled, Dr Lyndall Gourlay performed composite bonding on the four upper incisors. This minimally invasive procedure rebuilt the areas where enamel had worn away to enhance both strength and aesthetics. The resin was carefully colour-matched to blend with her newly brighter teeth.
At her final review, she tells us that she is smiling in photos now. By combining teeth whitening with composite bonding, we achieved a natural looking and functional restoration that enhanced both her smile and confidence.
